Whew! What a year!
The year 2020 has been so much different from what we expected, but hey, we managed to survive.
And now that it’s already coming to a close, I can’t help but look back to some of the toughest battles I’ve faced this year, as well as some of the things that have helped me get by.
Of course, one of them is my ever-reliable Sinaya Cup, which has made my life so much easier as a menstruator dealing with heavy and painful flows in the middle of the pandemic.
I’ve listed down some of the reasons why I am so grateful for my Sinaya Cup this year. Here they are:
Fewer trips to the supermarket
With the virus quickly spreading, I’ve conditioned myself to make the most of each trip to the supermarket. Anyway, I know that I’m actually exposing myself to risks each time I go out.
Thanks to my Sinaya Cup, I don’t have to go out too often to buy period products. I don’t have to worry about running out of pads, either. Just one cup is enough to get me through my periods.
Huge savings
Another year of menstrual cup use just means another year of big savings. And yes, this fact means more to me this year as this pandemic has so far led to a lot of unforeseen expenses like the delivery fees I have to pay to get access to some needs I’d normally just pick up myself.
I feel relieved that the money I can save from not having to buy disposable period products can be used for other expenses instead.
Less waste
At the onset of the pandemic, some people thought that the Earth was healing. Contrary to that belief, however, the Earth is actually suffering because the use of single-use plastics has been on the rise again.
In other words, our collective efforts in limiting plastic waste in the past few years have been undone in just a couple of months and that’s just sad.
I know that using a menstrual cup and other eco-friendly products are just simple efforts and can’t immediately make a difference in the world, but it still feels good to know that at a time like this, I am no longer adding more plastic waste to the already piling up trash in our landfills or the large volume of trash washed into our oceans.
Indeed, it’s already a good start. Also, if more menstruators would do the same thing, I’m sure it would make a significant contribution to our environment in the long run.
Comfortability
In a year that’s as stressful as 2020, having a reliable period product that’s very comfortable to use is already a huge blessing.
With my Sinaya Cup inside me, I don’t have to be bothered by itchy napkin edges and annoying tampon strings. Most of the time, I even forget about having a period, which just proves how comfortable it is.
In other words, it has continued making periods more bearable at a time when everything else seems to fall apart.
Efficiency
I am sure you all agree with how draining this year has been. Apart from interrupting our lives, this year has also forced us to absorb a lot of information about COVID-19 and how to protect ourselves from the virus.
While these are truly necessary, they can be overwhelming at times as well. And to be honest, there have been countless instances when I just feel so paralyzed after sanitizing sprees and other practices to ensure my safety.
Good thing, my period is always hassle-free.
With my Sinaya Cup, I can easily deal with it even as I try to follow my long list of rituals to keep myself safe from the virus. All I need to do is ensure that it’s clean and properly insert it into my vagina. Then I am good for the next 12 hours!
Dealing with menstruation can already be challenging on a normal day and it gets more challenging when a pandemic is terrorizing all of us. No wonder, my appreciation for my Sinaya Cup has grown even more.
It’s been a lifesaver, really, and I can’t imagine going through this hell of a year without it.
Plus, with my cup, I can finally stop raging about my period and instead allocate my energy to other things that matter, like remaining vigilant and participating in the difficult but necessary conversations in our society.
I don’t know what the year 2021 has in store for me and for each of us, but it’s quite comforting to know that I’ll always have one less thing to worry about next year—my period! And it’s all thanks to my Sinaya Cup.
